Planning a wedding or special event can be stressful, and when the bride or groom, or if one of you needs special assistance it is even more of a challenge. We have tried to make Avalen Farm as disabled friendly as possible and offer additional help when ever it is needed.
Once building works enable you to safely visit Avalen, we recommend visiting our venue to check out the accessibility, and also to consider bringing with you any wedding guests with access requirements. Do contact us via the internet or telephone to discuss any particular concerns. A hearing loop has been installed to assist those with hearing difficulties.
Arrival and car parking facilities
Avalen will be signposted by the brown tourist signs, from the A389 on the Innis Roundabout (off the A30) to Lanivet road. There is no public transport so a car is essential. You must book a taxi before attending an event at Avalen Farm as the phone signal is not good. We provide a free mini bus shuttle service for those staying at our sister property, Tor View Barn at Corgee Farm.
There is a large hard standing off road car park for guests, and we have allocated disabled parking near one of the entrances to offer easier access to those with walking difficulties.
We would be happy to assist any guest from parking/car park to the entrance room if you give us an estimated arrival time.
We do not have bright lights from the main car park because of the disturbance to the wild life, but there is guidance lighting down to the courtyard entrance.
Level access has been provided beside the main entrance to gain access directly into the courtyard with a wheelchair or pushchair. There are large double doors into the Big Barn dining room and super wide doorways into the Bull’s Pen Bar and Shippen ceremony room. The Shippen and Big Barn have sound loops installed for those who are hard of hearing.
Throughout Avalen there are sensitive smoke detectors with loud audible klaxons. We have a fire safety risk assessment and have been inspected by the local fire brigade. All of the buildings are non smoking areas.
Emergency lighting is fitted to all public areas in case of any power cuts.
We have a disabled toilet with access from the courtyard.
Being of historic interest, the second floor accommodation at Avalen is not accessible by wheelchair, but we can make up the ground floor to sleep anyone unable to manage the steep slope or the stairs. There is a disabled friendly shower room and toilet on the ground floor.
Our accommodation at Tor View barn is disabled friendly. There is plenty of free off street parking on level concrete areas and the Barn is accessed by slightly sloping concrete paths. Wheel chair users are welcome to use the main entrance or they can access the disabled friendly bedroom directly from the south facing garden, via a level concrete path. There are double opening doors into the disabled friendly bedroom and where there is a wooden threshold, which is 5 cm high. The shower room is a wet room with grab rails and the barn’s separate bathroom is also fitted with grab rails. Upstairs is accessed by a chair lift so any wheelchair user must be able to transfer onto this. We can supply a wheelchair upstairs. The cottage is accessed by steps and the bedrooms are downstairs so it is not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties. The lodge has five steps to access the front door and then the accommodation is all on the level. The lodge is not suitable for wheel chairs but may be suitable for anyone with walking difficulties.
